BYZANTINE CROSS

The center of the Cross contains a Chi-Rho which is the imposition of the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ.  As early as the Third Century Christians were using this symbol as a form of a Cross used in religious jewelry and tomb decorations.  The arms of the Cross contain an Alpha and Omega – Christ as the beginning and end of all.  The Cross is remenisant of early Byzantine Cross found in the Treasures of Christian Constantinople.  The inner verso designs are typical Byzantine ornamentation.
