PASCHA EGG.  From time to time we find a very unique religious item and this is one of them.    While we cannot guarantee delivery, we are accepting special orders subject to their availability.  The unique egg is Gold and Silver Plated and Made In Russia!  

 While the egg is an ancient symbol of new life and rebirth, St  Augustine describes Christ “bursting from the tomb” as a “chick emerging from its shell.”  The “egg” figures prominently  in the celebration of Pascha (Easter)  in Russia.   Blessed eggs are given after the Paschal Liturgy with the three kisses on alternating cheeks with the greeting “Christ Is Risen.!”  Thousands upon thousands of eggs were consumed in the forty days of Pascha.  Decorated and icon eggs replaced Crosses on the bottom of vigil lamps and were suspended from chandeliers to celebrate the Feast of Feasts.

The front of the egg is bas-relief of the resurrected Christ surrounded by Seraphim and standing on clouds on an X-shaped Cross.  The verso of the egg has an “XB” the first letters of Christos Voskrese – Christ is Risen!   The letters are surrounded by Seraphim.   Hanging from the bottom of the egg is a Seraphim medal.  While the egg is too large to be worn, it is on a 23 inch chain.  It will be a wonderful addition to any  “egg” collection.
